Now this one is fun! The Grand Rapids Planning Commission has given permission to Steadfast Property Holdings to convert the banking lobby on the second floor of the McKay Tower building, into a ballroom!

The Downtown Grand Rapids renovation project will have a capacity of up to 250 people that can be used for wedding receptions, holiday parties, business meetings and other gatherings. The ‘Ballroom at McKay Tower’ will hopefully receive approval from the city Commissioners and the owner plans on applying for a liquor license.

The full article can be read at the Grand Rapids Business Journal.

“McKay Tower is a centerpiece of downtown Grand Rapids, so it’s only fitting that the building offers a centerpiece space for everyone to enjoy,” said Chaundra Derks, operations director for Steadfast, in a statement.

“We hope that this project is viewed as a welcome addition to the city in that a vacant grand space will be returned to use for the enjoyment of the public,” she added.
